Privacy Policy
Last updated June 3, 2026
Your privacy is the foundation of everything we do. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have. In plain terms: your vault contents are never shared, never sold, and never accessed by us while you are alive.
Information we collect
- Account details you provide: name, email, date of birth, state of residence.
- Vault contents: letters, documents, photos, and recipient details you choose to store.
- Billing information, processed securely by our payment provider (we do not store card numbers).
- Limited technical data (device, browser, analytics) to keep the platform secure and fast.
How we use your information
- To operate your account and deliver your designated messages upon verified passing.
- To provide support, security, and service communications.
- To improve the platform. We use Google Analytics with anonymized data.
How we store and protect it
All data is encrypted with AES‑256 at rest and in transit. Vault contents are locked until a death certificate is verified — no DepartingNotes employee can read them before that point. We perform daily automated backups and annual third‑party security audits.
Third‑party sharing
None. Vault contents are never shared with any third party. We use trusted processors (payment, email delivery, hosting) strictly to operate the service, under confidentiality agreements.
Your CCPA rights
- The right to know what personal information we hold.
- The right to delete your information.
- The right to opt out of any sale of personal information — note that we do not sell data.
Your GDPR rights
- The right to access your personal data.
- The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten").
